Singing Celebrities

Here’s a fun post from Glamorati. 15 Celebrities who Sang…But Shouldn’t Have. Now, they’re not all women, but it’s a fun read and listen nonetheless. Check out this gem from Kristy McNichol and her brother Jimmy:

Let this be a lesson to you, music fans, if there’s ever proof celebrities shouldn’t sing, this is it. For […]

Blast from the Past: Tanya Tucker: Not Fade Away

I remember in the 80’s Tanya Tucker was going through this “edgy” period. I guess as a country music singer you really can’t get edgier than a Stones cover.
Love the big hair too!

Blast from the Past: Carly Simon and James Taylor - Mockingbird

This is one of my favorite duets of all time, Carly Simon and James Taylor back in the days when Carly Simons was Mrs. James Taylor. This is from the No Nukes concert put on by MUSE, the Musicians United for Safe Energy in 1979, I believe. The concert and subsequent album were both a […]

Blast from the Past: The Ike & Tina Turner Review: Proud Mary

Now. Say what you want about Ike, but I dare you to watch this performance of Proud Mary by the Ike & Tina Turner review and think it’s anything less than amazing. Tina had and still has such an amazing energy.

Belinda Carlisle Teams Up With Other 80’s Artists for Regeneration Tour

Belinda Carlisle Photo EnlargementBuy at AllPosters.com
Listening to Belinda Carlisle and the GoGo’s always takes me back to high school. I was either a Sophomore of Junior in high school when “We Got the Beat” was in heavy rotation. It always reminds me of very good times. That’s why I was interested to learn […]

Blast From the Past: Donna Summer - Last Dance

Every wedding plays this song at the end, doesn’t it? And you never know whether to slow dance or fast dance and end up doing a combination of both. I wasn’t a huge disco fan back in the day. I was more of rockin’ metal chick, but the song has grown on me and I […]

Blast from the Past: Dolly Parton - I Will Always Love You

Long before Whitney Houston had her hit from “The Bodyguard” soundtrack with “I Will Always Love You,” Dolly Parton was singing it for another soundtrack - “The Best Little Whorehosue in Texas.”
Personally, I’m not a fan of either version but it’s fun to compare.

Blast from the Past: Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane

The first time I saw the Cowboy Junkies was in, I think, 1989 or 1990. They sung their version of the Lou Reed classic “Sweet Jane” and I was mesmerized. I heard the same song again at the movie theater as it was part of the “Natural Born Killers” soundtrack. I bought the soundtrack the […]

Blast from the Past: Captain & Tennille - Love Will Keep Us Together

Hey. It could have been worse. I could have posted “Muskrat Love.”
I remember when “Love Will Keep Us Together” came out. I was a tween living in New York City but went to sleep away camp over the summer. We sang this song over and over and over again. After the two weeks were over […]

Blast from the Past: Jeannie C. Riley - Harper Valley PTA

I was only four in 1968 when “Harper Valley PTA” came out, so my memories of its release are rather non-existent. When I was a few years older a friend who lived across the street had a 45 of this song and we listened to it often. We sang along with it too, at the […]
