Faith Hill and Sunday Night Football

August 30, 2007 by Julie Bonner

I’d say NBC did an awesome job picking someone to be the new voice for Sunday Night Football, wouldn’t you? Of course, it helps that she’s nice to look at too, right guys?

Faith Hill is just an amazing woman in so many ways. She’s a great musician, a wonderful mother, she sticks up for her man when women try to grab him in places that no woman but her should be going, and she’s as pretty on the inside as she is out. Smart choice NBC!

Yes! I can not wait until football season! Just a few more days….

Faith Hill will sing the opening theme to NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” this season, the network announced Wednesday.

The country star will perform “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” before each game. The song, which pop singer Pink sang last season, is set to the tune of Joan Jett’s ’80s hit, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”

“I’m honored to have been asked,” Hill told The Associated Press in a phone interview from her home near Nashville. “I truly am a football fan. Particularly, men find it hard to believe that women can be big fans of football, but I love it. I loved it in junior high and high school, but being married to a man who schedules his life around football games, it makes it a lot easier.”

Hill, of course, is married to fellow country star Tim McGraw. A couple of years ago, McGraw sang the music to his “I Like It, I Love It” with the lyrics rewritten to go with the halftime highlight reel on “Monday Night Football.”

“Around our house in football season there’s a big routine,” says Hill, 39, who has three daughters with McGraw. “Dinner has to be planned out around the game, homework has to be finished. It’s an all-gather-around the television time.”

Over the years, she’s picked up a few of the finer points of the game. “I’ve learned when to ask questions and when not to ask them — like in the middle of a replay.”

The couple are die-hard Tennessee Titans fans, but Hill grew up in Mississippi where her family pulled for the New Orleans Saints. She still has a soft spot for the Saints, especially with the city’s struggle to rebound from Hurricane Katrina.

Hill, who’s sold 30 million records worldwide with hits including “This Kiss,” “Breathe” and “Mississippi Girl,” has already recorded the theme songs in New York, altering the lyrics a bit with each one to include the teams playing that week. She shot an accompanying video for the show in Los Angeles.

She’s also going to sing Sept. 6 in Indianapolis, along with John Mellencamp and Kelly Clarkson, during a special pre-game show before the NFL season opener between the Saints and the Super Bowl champion Colts.

Mary Win - Riverside (Ode to Blip Blip version) on YouTube

August 30, 2007 by Julie Bonner

I plan on bringing you all kinds of women in music on She Plays Music.com. Sure, I’ll talk about the ones who are already famous, making millions of dollars and singing to millions of fans. But I also want to bring you women musicians who are maybe, not so recognized. Like Mary Win. I found this YouTube video of her singing Riverside, which is an ode to her cat Blip Blip. Cute name.

Now I’ll be honest here, I am not a cat person. They make me sneeze, my eyes get all blood shot, my face turns all blotchy and well at the end of it all…I look like I’ve had a major hard night of drinking, but I actually like her song to her cat.

Anyway, I found Mary’s song under the Pets & Animals section. She has an extrememly soothing voice. If she were to make a cd, it would be one I would put on after I had drawn a huge bubble bath, lit some candles and dimmed the lights. Very nice. Tell me what you think.

Would you like more of Mary Win?

Here’s a little more about Mary Win:

Here’s a little about me. I was born in Bangkok, Thailand to Burmese political refugees fleeing the military dictatorship in neighboring Myanmar (formerly Burma) but the family soon settled in Seattle, Washington when I was ten months old. I played Clarinet throughout my school years. I wrote my first “official” song after my first real heartbreak, titled “Linger”, at age 15. In May, 2006 I started open-miking with a handful of originals. Shortly after turning 17, I experienced my first official live gig. Since then, I’ve been consistently performing across the Puget Sound in Washington State every weekend.

Madonna’s Books The English Roses - Four More to Be Released

August 27, 2007 by Julie Bonner

I absolutely love Madonna’s books, The English Roses. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical when I first heard she had written a book. I decided to let go of any ideas I had of the kind of person she was and pick up the book and read it. Come to find out, she’s a decent person who cares about children and these books are a result of that. She has been one of my favorite female musicians ever since.

On Monday, September 6th in the UK, the next four books in The English Roses series will be released. Those of us in America have to wait until September 13th. Bummer.

Here are the titles in order (click on the links to pre-order from Amazon): Friends for Life! #1, Goodbye, Grace? #2, The New Girl #3, A Rose By Any Other Name #4.

I’m going to order these and save them as a present for my daughter’s birthday. She loves to read.  I think every girl should have these books in her library. It’s hard being a kid and dealing with friendships. Girls can be so mean. Boys just punch the snot out of each other and then they are best friends again. Girls, well, we are just more difficult than that.

I can’t wait to read these!

Going From Blah to Fergalicious is Hard Work

August 22, 2007 by Julie Bonner

Do you think they all just wake up and automatically look beautiful? Okay, so some of them do, but this is what it takes to get most entertainers and celebrities looking, as Fergie would call it, Fergalicious. Fergie was in the middle of a wardrobe change before a David LaChapelle photo shoot in Hollywood. Someone get that girl some new slippers please!
