Whitney Houston’s “I Look To You” Music Video Premiere

September 11, 2009 by Jeanne

The official music video for Whitney Houston’s new single “I Look To You” was released last night on Whitney’s official website. It shows Whitney alone in a long beige gown with a simple gray backdrop, singing along to the title track of her first album in almost 6 years.

I’m sure this comeback means so much to her because, right now, her album is currently #1 on the Billboard 200. It’s also being said that on September 16th, another music video titled “Million Dollar Bill”, written by Alicia Keys, would be released as well. This is supposed to be a mid-tempo track, so I can’t wait to hear what that sounds like!

Whitney will also be promoting her I Look To You album by appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show on September 14th and 15th. Make sure to tune in!

Though this music video is really simple, I think it’s perfect for the occasion. It’s celebratory of her return to music after all those years. On top of it, Whitney looks beautiful and elegant.  Good for her! Are you guys liking this video?

Mary J Blige and More To Pay Tribute to Michael Jackson

September 9, 2009 by Jeanne

Some big names are headlining a tribute concert to honor the late Michael Jackson being held in Vienna later this month.  Mary J. Blige, Natalie Cole and Sister Sledge will be performing along with Akon and Chris Brown.

The event will take place at Vienna’s Schoenbrunn castle on September 26, 2009 and will also feature a performance by Jermaine Jackson who will sing a virtual duet with his brother (which is reminiscent of what Natalie Cole did on “Unforgettable” with her father, Nat King Cole).

I don’t think the roster is completely firmed up yet but I think 20-25 artists are expected to perform the King of Pop’s greatest hits accompanied by the band and dancers who had been preparing to go on the “This Is It” tour with Michael Jackson before he died of an apparent drug overdose on June 25, 2009.

Jackson’s children and mother, Katherine, are expected to attend the concert.

New Leona Lewis Single – “Happy”

September 8, 2009 by Jeanne

When I first heard “Bleeding Love” I thought that it was an extremely good single from a reality TV show winner (she took the top prize on X Factor) but Leona Lewis really hasn’t been able to recapture that magic in any of her subsequent singles.

The first single from her upcoming album (due out in November) is called “Happy” and it’s already begun circulating around the internet.  I really don’t know how to feel about it.  I think it allows her to show off her signature voice and almost yodel-type singing style but I don’t think this is a particularly strong song.

She co-wrote the track with OneRepublic frontman, Ryan Tedder, and the first thing I’ve got to say about that is that I’m happy it doesn’t sound like anything Beyoncé or Kelly Clarkson has released (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out the drama).

Paramore Covers Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody”

September 7, 2009 by Jeanne

Looks like lots of people are in the mood to cover other artist’s songs (I wrote about Britney Spears singing an Alanis Morrisette song yesterday).  I spotted this video of Paramore on BBC Radio 1 putting their own styling on the Kings of Leon’s megahit “Use Somebody” and I think that it’s pretty good, especially when you consider the fact that it’s acoustic.

I think that I like a female voice better on this song.  Hayley does a great job and I recently heard a version by Brooke White (former American Idol finalist) on her debut album, High Hopes and Heartbreak

I’d love to hear what you think of this cover and I’d like to also know what you think of artists singing the songs of others.

Britney Spears “You Oughta Know” Cover

September 6, 2009 by Jeanne

It seems as though Britney Spears has started covering the Alanis Morrisette hit “You Oughta Know” on her Circus tour.  I saw this video of her doing it at a show in Greensboro, NC over the weekend and I think she starts it and ends it relatively well but the middle was a little strange.

Here’s the thing – I’m happy to see her singing live at all.  She lip syncs her own songs on the tour (and obviously couldn’t get away with that with someone else’s song) so I’m glad her audience is getting some form of live vocals.

Check it out and tell me what you think!

Whitney Houston’s “I Look To You” Video to Debut On September 10

September 4, 2009 by Jeanne

After just recently releasing her comeback album I Look to You, it has been announced that Whitney Houston will be releasing the music video for the title track on Thursday, September 10th.  In addition to that, on September 16th, Whitney will also be releasing the music video for another one of her tracks called “Million Dollar Bill”, off of the same album.

Her single “I Look to You” was actually written by R. Kelly and was produced by Tricky Stewart and Harvey Mason, Jr. The song has peaked at #19 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip Hop Chart, making it her highest charting in seven years. Whitney has enlisted the help of several big names for her album including Alicia Keys, who is the writer of Whitney’s single “Million Dollar Bill.”

Are you guys excited for the release of the music videos? I’m so glad to see that Whitney’s getting her life back together and that she’s decided to continue making music!

Carrie Underwood Unveils “Cowboy Casanova”

September 3, 2009 by Jeanne

Have you heard Carrie Underwoods new single “Cowboy Cassanova” yet?  It was all over the internet yesterday but there were multiple versions floating around.  An official one was uploaded to Carrie’s Youtube Channel so I’m going to assume that’s the one she’s going to release.

The track is from her upcoming album Play On which will be released on November 3, 2009 and I love the cover art.  Carrie looks fresh and innocent but there’s still a hint of darkness in her eyes.  They did a good job with this one!

The lyrics to “Cowboy Casanova” reveal the tough side of Carrie again and, while the melody is different than “Before He Cheats” but it invokes a similar feeling since it’s almost like she’s one of your girlfriends trying to warn you about some creep lurking around.  I like that a lot and I think she sounds terrific.

Check it out and share your opinion:

Kylie Minogue Looks Happy And Healthy

September 2, 2009 by Jeanne

Australian pop princess, Kylie Minogue, was spotted leaving her home and then visiting the Freedom Health Clinic in London before heading to the KX Gym.   I am so happy to see her in such great spirits and looking so healthy and vibrant.

Some of you may remember that Kyle was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2005 which led to the postponement of her Showgirl – The Greatest Hits Tour.  She went through surgery and chemotherapy that same year and has been steadily improving ever since.

In November 2006, Kylie made a triumphant return to the stage and, despite the fact that some routines and details had to be reworked to accommodate her medical needs, critics and fans were very impressed.  I can’t even name the number of events she has attended or performed at since then because she’s been so busy.  What a tough woman in our music industry!

Madonna “Celebration” Music Video

September 1, 2009 by Jeanne

Have you seen the frenzied, dance-driven music video for Madonnas new single “Celebration” yet?  It was released just yesterday and while I wasn’t a big fan of the original version of this song, I like this remix even though it’s clearly not a melodic masterpiece.

It feels like a good dance track for this time of year and that is just another testament to Madge’s genius.  She knows what is current, she knows what is going to be current in the near future and she knows when to release certain types of tracks.

Around the 3:15 mark you’ll see Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes, doing a very quick dance move and back roll.  That must have been fun to have her in the video shoot but can you imagine watching your mom dance like Madonna in a video?  Uh, yeah…
